Frequently Asked Questions

I would like to do an internship with you, can I send you my CV?

Yes. Each year we generally take interns and welcome CVs from talented individuals interested in the work we do. Our internships often run through the summer months, but we can consider offering experience at other times. Internships are typically for 2-3 months but we can offer anything from 1 month to 1 year depending on the individual and the experience sought.

Do you support apprenticeships or part-time learning?

Yes. We support both these routes and currently have employees on both RIBA Part 2 and Part 3 courses. We can offer support towards course fees as well as additional time off for study leave.

Do you offer work experience or work placement opportunities?

Yes. We have a programme of work experience for school or college students, and typically have around 10 placements each year. These are offered on a first come first served basis, so it is best to apply early. Placements are typically for 1 or 2 weeks.

I want to apply for one of your roles but do not have the right to work in the UK, will you sponsor me?

For exceptional candidates filling advertised positions, we can offer visa sponsorship support. If this includes you, please indicate this in your application. For existing employees, we can offer assistance in maintaining and renewing visas as they expire.

Do you offer part-time or hybrid working?

Yes.  We have a flexible working policy giving employees the right to request a change to the normal full-time working pattern, and accept new employees on varied terms. This can include a reduction or variation of working hours, or a reduction or variation of the days worked. We also have an agile working policy allowing employees after successful completion of their probation period, the option to work up to 40% of their hours from home, if their role permits this form of working.

Do you have fixed working hours?

Generally, not for most roles unless advertised. We operate an agile working policy which gives employees the right to work their contracted hours at a time that suits them, but must be between 7am and 7pm to ensure we maintain continuity of service to our clients throughout the day.

How long do you keep my application for?

We will keep your application on file for a maximum of 12 months, with any successful candidate records then being held within our HR system after joining as an employee.

How do the interviews work?

Depending on the role, we might offer a one-stage or a two-stage interview. You will be invited to our offices where you will meet one of our hiring managers, plus - depending on the stage of the interview process - either another senior member of staff or a member of the Executive Board. During the interview we will discuss your skills, experience, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the company and the specific role advertised.

Will interviews be held in person or virtually?

We prefer in-person interviews, to enable the candidate to get a feel for our office culture and environment. We are able to accommodate virtual interviews in specific circumstances.

What to bring with you to your interview?

Please bring a copy of the CV and portfolio (if relevant) submitted with your application as a minimum. We would welcome any additional documents or drawings that might further prove your suitability to the role and your experience on relevant projects. It is always beneficial to circulate any additional material with us in advance of the interview, if possible, so it can be reviewed beforehand.

Do I need to print off my portfolio for the interview?

We prefer a copy of your portfolio and of any additional material in printed form to review during the interview, but we are able to accept digital versions too. Before the interview, think of how you will want to present any digital material, whether on your own devices or casting on our meeting room monitors. In the latter case, we would suggest you let us know and send the information to be shared in advance so we can make the required arrangements ahead of your arrival.

What training or inductions are given in the first few months?

We provide a thorough induction process in the first month, carried out by line managers and other specialist staff within the company (HR, Finance, Information Management etc). For technical staff, we provide a comprehensive BIM training programme in the first few weeks to bring new joiners up to speed with our BIM software (ArchiCAD) to suit all levels, from complete beginners to experienced users. A series of meetings with line managers are held up to 6 months to review progress and training needs. Ongoing training continues tailored to the specific needs of the individual and everyone is offered the opportunity to buddy up with an employment mentor to provide additional support.

What is the working environment like?

Our London office is based in Somerset House, which offers an array of opportunities for lunchtime and after-work activities and entertainment.
